What are gilts? Learn about methods of raising gilts such as how to stimulate reproductive hormones, feed cutting process, and appropriate diet.
Pig farming is one of the important industries, contributing to providing a large amount of food for our country. However, in the context of international integration as well as being affected by disease factors, the pressure of production costs is posing significant challenges for the industry. To increase their scale of farming, or reproduce after the epidemic, raising gilts is always a top concern. Let’s find out the ways of effectively care for gilts when they are slow to breed.

A pig’s breeding cycle is 21 days. Observe carefully to choose a male pig.
If the pig is not in heat, we do the following: After about 5-7 days, at the latest 8-9 days, the gilt will be in heat.
The house has a boar (male, female). We let the gilts come into contact with them for 15 minutes every day in the morning after feeding or in the cool afternoon. If there is no boar, we buy semen for the gilts to smell to stimulate reproductive hormones, the pigs will quickly breed.
We proceed to cut the bran in 1 day from 2-3 meals to 1 meal to create stress for the pigs. Daily feed ration is 2.5 – 2.8 kg/day, eat bran, note that pigs that are too fat or too thin will have difficulty breeding, farmers should increase or decrease the feed ration accordingly.

Regarding the cage, it is also necessary to pay attention to the density of 2.5-3m/pig. If the pigs are raised too close together, they will bite each other, and if they are too wide, they will have hoof problems. The most suitable light for pigs to breed quickly is 16 hours of light per day.
Let the pigs out in the garden to absorb vitamins A, D, E from the sunlight, let them run freely, then we force the pigs.
Inject ADE for pigs with Vitol 140 or Vitol 450 product of Interchemie Netherlands
For closed farms: We chase and lure the unbred gilts into an empty cage, usually next to the boar’s cage. We proceed to force the pigs.
How to force pigs: Let the gilt come into contact with the boar for 1-2 minutes. The farmer enters the cage, uses both hands to press on the pig’s back or can sit on the pig’s back, and lets the pig run around the cage for 5-10 times.

If the gilts have not yet bred, we inject hormones. It is best to use natural methods, there is no other way but to use hormones, because the pigs will depend on hormones from the following litters. Pay attention to record the breeding time of each pig taking care of the pig appropriately.
Try all the above methods but the pig isn’t still in heat so we proceed to cull.
Through the useful information above, farmers have a better understanding of the signs of slow-breeding gilts and methods of caring for slow-breeding gilts.
