Nearly 70 dairy cows died after being vaccinated against lumpy skin disease

LAM DONG’s Authorities recorded that 68 dairy cows became weak, had bloody diarrhea and died after being vaccinated against lumpy skin disease.

On August 7, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lam Dong coordinated with relevant agencies to work with local people to gather information about the mass deaths of dairy cows after being vaccinated against lumpy skin disease.

According to the Department of Livestock, Veterinary and Aquatic Products of Lam Dong, the relevant agencies have recorded cases of dairy cows showing signs of illness and dying in Ka Do, Quang Lap, Tu Tra, Da Ron communes (Don Duong district) and Hiep Thanh commune (Duc Trong district). Now, the number of dairy cows and calves that have died in the localities is 68.

After receiving the information, the Department of Livestock, Veterinary and Aquatic Products of Lam Dong directed localities to stop vaccination against lumpy skin disease. At the same time, it assigned staff to coordinate with localities to treat the number of dairy cows showing abnormal health signs.

It is known that the authorities organized vaccination against lumpy skin disease in buffaloes and cows in Duc Trong and Don Duong districts (Lam Dong province) from July 22 to 31. Now, more than 31,000 doses have been completed, of which 10,000 doses were administered to dairy cows.

According to people’s feedback, after vaccination, dairy cows showed signs of weakness, stopped eating, coughed, foamed at the mouth, had bloody diarrhea and died.
