According to incomplete calculations, storm No. 3 caused damage to the aquaculture industry of up to VND2,500 billion and the livestock industry of about VND2,000 billion.
As of the morning of September 21, businesses had registered to support nearly VND170 billion in cash, feed, breeds, environmental improvement substances, raw materials, etc. to restore the livestock and aquaculture industries in the Northern region.
This information was given at the Conference on coordination to support the recovery of livestock and aquaculture production after storm No. 3 organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on September 21 in Hanoi.

Storm No. 3 and the floods after the storm have caused great damage and impacts on agricultural production, especially livestock and aquaculture. These are also the two sectors with the highest growth in the agricultural sector. Initial preliminary calculations show that the aquaculture sector suffered about VND 2,500 billion in damage, and the livestock sector also suffered about VND 2,000 billion.
Mr. Pham Kim Dang, Deputy Director of the Department of Livestock (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), said that as of September 18, Storm No. 3 had killed 22,514 cattle and 3,097,000 poultry. Of which, the five provinces with the greatest damage were Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Hanoi, Thai Nguyen, and Yen Bai.
According to the leader of the Department of Livestock, in addition to the damage to livestock and poultry, the damage to barns and farms has not yet been fully counted. The Department of Livestock Production has guided localities to apply existing policies to restore herds, develop recovery plans, and scenarios for seed supply sources, etc.

Up to now, the Department of Livestock has also called on more than 50 businesses to sponsor cash, breeds, feed, etc. with a total amount of nearly 79 billion VND to help restore livestock farming in the coming time.
Mr. Tran Dinh Luan, Director of the Department of Fisheries (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) also said that the fisheries industry has suffered heavy damage and has not been fully counted, so the Department has called on businesses to support the recovery and reconstruction of aquaculture and has received enthusiastic participation from businesses. According to initial figures, the Department has mobilized nearly 85 billion VND to support the damaged provinces and is still mobilizing.
In addition to fisheries and livestock businesses, businesses in the veterinary industry have also registered to support cash, medicine, etc. with a total value of more than 2.4 billion VND to restore livestock farming.
Although there are no exact figures on the damage to people and businesses in the aquaculture sector, according to initial statistics, thousands of billions of VND of Quang Ninh fishermen have “flown away” with the storm.
Thanking businesses for their enthusiastic support, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien affirmed that the allocation of funding resources to organizations and businesses in the agriculture and aquaculture sectors will be effectively implemented.
Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien emphasized the need to publicize the list of sponsored organizations and businesses and the amount of money allocated. The allocation of funding will be carried out fairly, based on the needs and activities of the units. The support will be implemented in a specific manner, avoiding the situation of general support without achieving efficiency.

Sharing more about policies to support the recovery of the agricultural sector in the coming time, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien said that the Government has assigned the Ministry of Agriculture to prepare to issue a new decree on support policies. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is developing and proposing solutions such as deferring and extending debt and providing certain support for businesses, cooperatives, and households; continuing to resolve issues on insurance and reinsurance to develop aquaculture, livestock farming, and other fields in a more sustainable manner.
To solve the food supply from now until the end of the year, especially during the Lunar New Year, the leader of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that when the State’s policies are implemented with the support of businesses and industry associations on breeds, feed, materials, etc., livestock farming and aquaculture will soon recover to ensure domestic supply and export in the coming time.
